All Levels Hatha/Vinyasa

This class is taught by:

Karen C Clark

Bio: I teach yoga because I believe in it’s ability to heal our minds and bodies after experiencing it for myself. Prior to trying yoga I had a regular fitness routine that included ballet dancing, Pilates, aerobic classes and light strength training. Even though I was active I found myself spending a lot of time visiting my massage therapist and chiropractor to repair imbalances in my physiology. I began looking for a more effective way to restore harmony in my body and tried my first yoga class at age 40. I started noticing improvements in my flexibility and functionality with yoga. Shortly after I began a regular yoga practice I had some difficult life events that really tested my emotional wellness too. I craved the peace that I found each time I went to yoga, and found it was helping my mind as much as my body. That grew into a real love for it and a spark to share my love with others by becoming a certified instructor.

I teach Hatha / Vinyasa yoga and Aerial Yoga. I love the lighthearted fun of the hammock classes and discovering new ways of using the hammock for strengthening, stretching, restoring and translating yoga poses in new dimensions.

Teaching Style: Encouraging, friendly, educational. I am very focused on teaching alignment and breath so my students find stability and space in their postures first, and then start exploring strength and depth of the pose.

3 things I would put in a time capsule: Lip gloss, yoga mat, cozy sweater & sweat pants

John Deakers

Bio: Growing up as an athlete, I have always found peace and calm in movement. I started my yoga practice seeking relief from neck and shoulder injuries. The mental and physical challenges kept me coming back and I soon became a regular student. I completed the Spectra School of Yoga teacher training in 2017. I am grateful for the amazing teachers and community at Spectra Yoga and I look forward to sharing my experience. Outside of the yoga studio I like to paint, play music, and swim in the ocean.

Teaching Style: Focused on intelligent alignment, strength building, and breath awareness

3 things I would put in a time capsule: My niece and nephew’s drawings, drums, & fins

Jason Rowell

Bio: Prompted by his siblings to attend a power-vinyasa style class back in 2009, Jason began incorporating yoga into his weekly fitness regimen upon observing the benefits of a regular practice. With a background in athletics, not to mention the injuries this involved, yoga offered a unique and well- needed approach to his current beliefs involving health and fitness. To expand his practice and knowledge-base, Jason completed his 200-hour teacher training in 2012, and began teaching shortly thereafter. While his foundation stemmed primarily from the more physical nature of various yoga styles, years of regular practice have shifted his approach to a more balanced and inclusive metaphysical perspective. Jason has practiced in many styles of yoga over the years, and finds tremendous value in all physical forms when practiced with an emphasis on breath and intention. Of course, he still enjoys a challenging physical practice if nothing else. Jason also finds time to practice Tajichuan (Tai Chi) on a regular basis, believing resolutely in the systemic benefits of energetic practices like Tai Chi and yoga.

When not teaching yoga, Jason works in the nutrition industry, and is currently completing an MS in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. As an advocate for alternative and integrative medicine, he believes most strongly in the healing power of nutrition and diet, yet understands that true health is only accessible when dysfunction from all sources (chemical, physical, emotional, spiritual), is addressed sufficiently and balanced within the uniqueness of our individual genetic expression. Yoga fits very well within the paradigm of holistic healing, and is a practice from which everyone can benefit in one or more ways.

Teaching Style: I consider my teaching style physically challenging, yet accessible to beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Most of my focus is directed towards proper alignment, structure, and breath, while working towards enhanced strength and focus. Stylistically, my sequences draw heavily from modern power vinyasa and classical Ashtanga traditions.

3 Things I would put in a time capsule: My collection of textbooks, my grandfather’s world war II memorabilia (I’m a huge history buff), and pictures/videos of those dearest in my life.
